Public Quests, the gold farmers best friend.

Posted September 30th, 2008 by Ripperjack

I know Gold Farming in WAR is pointless, but hey... the Public Quests are too good to ignore.

With the release of Warhammer, comes their new and shiny public quest system. A system by which you can easily join in on the action, stay for a while and get some nice phat lewt for relatively little effort. No need to spend hours screaming on LFG channels for a raid group, no need to beg your guild leader for a raid spot, just rock on up, smack whatever is running around and you too can be getting a nice white/green/blue/orange bag of goodies for your time spent.

"It all seams to easy" you may say, however there are a few tips you have to keep in mind when running from PQ ( Public Quest ) to PQ.

1. You gotta do something.

Granted you can just AFK in a PQ and rack up the stage change influence, however the best loots are in those annoyingly random rolled loot bags. Generally just running around screaming like a little girl isn't going to cut it, so you got to do something. Keeping track of the quest objectives helps, but the best way to rack up contribution points is to be a healer. Playing my Warrior Priest I have been amazed at how many times I get 500+ contribution points for just sitting back and healing. So, if you have the ability to heal, do it. If not, just start swinging.

2. Stay for the stage changes.
Each PQ is broken up into distinct stages, which makes up the entire PQ cycle. When a stages objectives are complete, you get a nice boost of influence for that chapter and a bonus dump of XP. This point gives you two things you can do.

If you are doing a PQ, stay for the entire cycle. No point just doing the first bit, when for a few more minutes play time, you can get a nice boost of influence and XP. Most PQ's move swiftly that hanging around for a few cycles is no big deal. Most of the time you may need to stay for 3 to 4 cycles to max out your influence bar.

Also, if you are moving about the zone and don't want to spend too much time in any one spot, run past the PQ's and see what the objectives for the current stage are. If they are almost complete, then spend a few moments doing whatever to "tip it over" to the next stage, get the easy influence/XP and move on.

3. PQ's are farming gold mines.
With the constant stream of spawns, related to the PQ system, this is an excellent place for all you scavengers. Most of the PQ's I've seen have humanoids, so when everybody is distracted with beating the bad guys, you are free to pick over the bodies. Provided there isn't too much competition, then you can get a nice haul of crafting stuff for your alts.

Also having an instant cast attack spell is handy too. Just sit in the middle of the PQ, tag everything and let everybody else smack it. Then you can loot as well as scavenge the bodies.

4. Remember to check your influence rewards.
Commonly overlooked, are the available influence rewards you can get once you build up your influence running PQ's. So, once that blue bar is full, be sure to check back with the local rally master to see what you can get. Also, if you click on the influence bar you can see what is on offer, use this to decide if the current chapter PQ is worth your while.

So in other words... FREE LEWTS!!

I like this WAR coverage. Keep it up... I think your focus should switch from a lot of WoW posts to half and half.

Ripper, I believe this might be reason for you havng 500 contrib:

http://www.mmowned.com/forums/warhammer-online-exploits-bots-programs/171128-wp-get-big-contibution-while-afk-pq.html#post1119056

When I was on my shaman, I noticed that you have to make about 3 times more healing then dps classes do damage to be equal to their contribution.. which often can be hard. However when I later tried out WP, I got over 400 contrib for doing almoust nothing.. just running around and hitting few mobs and throwing few hots, and keeping the buff from the post up.

My zealot is the PQ pro!

I'm first literally every PQ.  How do you do this?  Pretty simple really.  Zealots are PQ whores.  HOTS + DOTS = win.

Act as puller early.  Insta-cast long range on the non-champ mobs, tab-dot tab-dot.  Pull it all in, shield+hot yourself, let your group agro off you.  Its easy the mobs cant kill you regardless.  Keep chain pulling.

Phase 2:  For the champion phase dont pull agro.  Just HOT, non-stop hots to every tank.

Final Phase: For the hero phase, heal your tank.  No other healer will be able to outdo your hots from the previous stage.

At rank 17 I have 4 epics (none of the freebie weiner ones) and mostly blues (mantle is still green).  Your combined Healing + dot damage will = wins.

Also as a side note, your AOE rank 2 morale skill is EPIC in phase 1.  After 1 or 2 rounds of pulls your morale should be full, fire it off when 10 or so mobs are around you and your group's tanks are sitting at about 90% hp.  Youll rack up about 2k damage and 2k healing in a second for no AP cost!

A few times I've ended a scenario and returned to the Public Quest areas literally seconds before the Final boss goes down. I hauled ass to the boss and hit him 2 -3 times to get credit, and ended up with a lucky roll that netted me a nice loot bag over some who had been there the whole fight.

i can say without hesitation that tanks get the shaft in PQs and Keep taking.

your "contribution" of holding the elites is worthless, apparently.

don't try this in keeps though...my shaman has NEVER had more than 100 roll, and he has healed TONS in keep sieges, done plenty of damage to the champs / hero, all in all working my ass off...just to get out done by some fucking sorceress that spammed with 100 dark magic beating the shit out of everything. damage (especially from a bwizard / sorc) is far superior for keeps.
